Privacy Policy

Dance Notes (練舞筆記, “the Service”) is a dance video note-taking tool operated by an individual developer, available as a web app and an iOS app. This policy explains what data the Service collects, how it is used and stored, and how you can manage your data. This is an English translation of the Traditional Chinese version; if the two differ, the Chinese version prevails.
iOS app
The iOS app currently does not require sign-up or sign-in, and does not connect to our servers:
- The videos you import, the video details you enter, and your markers, notes, move library and folders are stored only on your iPhone. They are never sent to us or any third party
- Videos are imported with the iOS system photo picker. The app only receives the videos you select and saves a copy inside the app; it cannot see any other photos or videos in your library
- The app has no ads, tracking or analytics, and does not collect device identifiers
- Videos are excluded from iCloud backup; notes are included in your iPhone backup (handled by Apple)
- Deleting the app deletes all videos and notes in it
Sections 1–11 below cover the web app. If the iOS app adds cloud sync in the future, your data will only be handled under these rules after you turn on sync and sign in yourself, and we will update this page first.
1. Data we collect
Account data
- If you sign up with email: display name, email address and password (stored only as a secure hash; we cannot see your password)
- If you sign in with Google: your name, email address, profile picture URL and Google account ID. The Service only requests the basic openid, email and profile scopes and never reads your Gmail, Google Drive, contacts or any other Google data
- Your plan (Free or Pro) and the invite code you used to upgrade
- If you subscribe to Pro: subscription status, renewal date, and your Paddle customer and order IDs. We never receive your card number or other payment details
Content you upload and create
- Video files, with their file name, file size and recording time (the file’s modification time)
- Video details you enter: dance style, teacher, class, social event, dancer names, tags and dates
- Markers, notes, move library and folders
Data generated when you use the Service
- Sign-in sessions (stored in a browser cookie and in our database, including IP address and browser user agent)
- Access logs kept by our hosting providers for operations and abuse prevention
The web app uses Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It does not use cookies, does not track you across websites and is not linked to your account; we remove URL parameters and share-link codes before sending. We do not use advertising trackers or marketing cookies.
2. How we use your data
- To sign you in and keep you signed in
- To store, transcode and play the videos you upload, and show your notes
- To determine your plan and cloud storage limit (30 minutes on the free plan)
- To send password reset emails
- To keep the Service running, fix problems and prevent abuse
We never sell your data or use it for advertising.
3. Google user data
Data the Service receives from Google (name, email, profile picture and account ID) is used only to create and identify your account and to show your name in the app. We do not transfer this data to third parties (except the infrastructure providers in section 4 that are needed to run the Service), and we do not use it for advertising or to train AI models.
The Service’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
You can remove the Service’s access at any time from the third-party connections page of your Google Account.
4. Where your data is stored and who processes it
To provide the Service, your data is stored with the following providers (mainly in the Singapore region). They process data only on our instructions:
- Vercel: website hosting and anonymous page-view statistics
- Amazon Web Services (RDS): database (accounts, video details, notes)
- Cloudflare R2: video and thumbnail files
- Fly.io: video transcoding
- Resend: password reset emails
- Google: Sign in with Google (only if you choose to use it)
If you subscribe to Pro, payment is handled by Paddle.com. Paddle is the Merchant of Record for our orders and collects the data needed for payment (such as your email, country and payment method) directly from you, under Paddle’s Privacy Policy.
5. Who can see your data
The videos and notes you upload are visible only to you by default. Video files are not public and are played through private, time-limited links.
You can create a share link for a single video. Anyone with the link can view that video without signing in, along with its title, dance style, teacher, your display name and its markers (titles, notes, tags and linked moves). You can stop sharing at any time, which disables any links you have sent; deleting the video also disables the link.
6. Data retention and deletion
- Your data is kept until you delete it or delete your account
- When you delete a video, its files and related data are deleted with it
- To delete your whole account and all its data, email j606888@gmail.com. We will complete the deletion within 30 days and confirm by email
- Access logs are kept by our providers for a period under their own policies and then deleted automatically
7. Your rights
You can request access to, correction, export or deletion of your personal data, or ask us to stop processing it. Email j606888@gmail.com.
8. Security
All traffic uses HTTPS, database connections are always encrypted, passwords are stored only as hashes, and video storage is not public. No system on the internet is perfectly secure; if an incident affects your data, we will notify you as soon as possible.
9. Children
The Service is not designed for children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal data from children.
10. Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes, we will update the date on this page and notify you.
